Biography:
Susan F. Skawinski is a certified reading/ literacy specialist and a literacy teacher educator. She earned her undergraduate degree in elementary education from Bridgewater University, her master’s degree in reading development from the University of Rhode Island, and her doctorate in language and literacy development from Boston University. She taught in the Elementary / Special Education Department at Providence College for 26 years where she was awarded the Joseph R. Accinno Teaching Award in 2013. Prior to teaching at Providence College, Susan worked as a literacy support specialist at the Rhode Island Department of Education. She has been a classroom teacher and reading specialist in elementary, middle and secondary grades and has served in several administrative positions in Rhode Island school districts. Her research interests include a focus on the writing development of multilingual learners, the analysis of expository text structure, and formative assessment.
